Shop This Year’s Biggest Shoe Trend: The Square-Toed

This past year has seen barely-there sandals and sculptural heels take centre stage on runways and in shoe stores. Meanwhile, the square-toed, being the underdog of this season’s shoe trend, has invaded the market inaudibly since a few years back (silver toe plate leather Chelsea boots from Calvin Klein 205W39NYC Spring Summer 2017 collection that sold like hotcakes). And it has been coming on aggressively ever since.

Our favourites from this season’s runways are Fendi’s elevated version of evening (Freedom logo) pumps, Burberry’s embossed leather pumps, slouchy over the knee leather boots from Proenza Schouler, the BB logo square leather boots from Balenciaga, Roger Vivier‘s signature pump with oversized metal buckle, Belle du Jour and Gucci’s double G hardware pumps with fringe.

This ’90s silhouette has since shifted away from its retro chunky old self and has been reimagined with an edgier streamlined shape. The square-toed style has dominated cult labels like By Far, Neous, Wandler, aeydē and high street brands like Zara, & Mango and it doesn’t seem to be going anywhere anytime soon.

So do not miss out on this massive shoe trend while it’s still hot. Shop away with our favourite picks this season.
