To mark the death of the patron saint of Ireland, St Patrick's Day first became an official Christian feast day in the early 17th Century. These days, it's widely celebrated with a pint of Guinness. But don't stop there - here are five options to consider.
#1 Go green
When heading out to dinner tonight and for the rest of the week, wear your favourite outfits or accessories in shades lime, emerald, mint chartreuse or olive. We're breaking out our Kurt Geiger peep-toe pumps!
#2 Play some John Mayer
This track technically has nothing to do with the Irish holiday - but it's a lovely song about a relationship marked by the months of the year, and is one of Mayer's best work.
#3 Have a pint and some grub
Head to the Hard Rock Cafe for their Pie & A Pint promotion: For only S$25++, you can tuck into Rocking Guinness Pie (it's packed with juicy, tender chunks of steak, stewed in a Guinness broth, and served with potato mash and classic peas) and a cold glass of silky-smooth Guinness Stout. This promotion is available till the end of the month at Hard Rock Cafe Singapore, Sentosa and Changi.
#4 Mark your calendars for parties this weekend
Join in the fun at the St Patrick's Street Festival, which promises a street fair complete with Irish dance performances, live band performances, nail art booths, candy floss stations and a fun parade. It's all happening in the Circular Road area, where roads will be closed for the festivities.
#5 Brush up on your Irish
There's no better time to practise speaking like an Irish woman by adding some choice words or phrases to your convos. It's easy - use the word "grand" instad of "good" or "great", "chips" instead of "fries" and "a jumper" instead of "a sweater" or "a pullover".
