What You Should Know About This NYC Bar That’s Opening Here

First of all: It's ranked fourth in World’s 50 Best Bars 2015

New York cocktail institution Employees Only will be opening its doors in Singapore tomorrow - and we honestly can't wait to see if it lives up to its reputation. Known for consistently excellent tipples, Prohibition-speakeasy vibe and sensational food (to call it bar grub would be an insult), the Amoy Street newcomer will no doubt be a huge hit among the local cocktail crowd. If you're still not convinced, below are five reasons why you should visit:

1. Singapore will be its only overseas branch

According to New York Times, the New York-based bar is planning to expand to Miami Beach and Austin, Texas this year, but the Amoy Street branch remains as its sole overseas outpost.

2. The original team will recreate an authentic experience

Co-founder Igor Hadzismajlovic has been visiting Singapore regularly since 2008, and has recently made a permanent move here to ensure that the Employees Only experience is preserved.

The local staff will be trained by Steve Schneider, the principal bartender from the New York bar. “It’s absolutely a priority for us to create the same ambiance and energy that Employees Only has become so cherished for,” says Schneider.

3. Expect your drinks to be served in under six minutes

As homage to its home base, the “New York Minute” will be adhered to here. At least, that’s what Hadzismajlovic hopes.

4. "One for the road" has a different meaning here

If you’ve visited the original Employees Only in New York, you’d know that the bar has a fun tradition of serving homemade chicken soup to guests who stay till closing time. The team has assured that the nightcap will be served at our local branch too.

5. The food is going to be awesome

Of course, executive chef and partner Julia Jaksic didn’t fly across continents to create a shabby menu. While her signature creations like Hand Cut Beef Tartar and Bone Marrow Poppers are a must-try during dinner hours, we can’t wait to check out the unique The Employees Only Staff Meal, which is specially adapted from the staff’s family meal for local patrons.

Employees Only is located at 112 Amoy Street.
