These Food Delivery Services Are Better Than A Boyfriend

They’ll send you your fave grub from the hippest cafes and best restos

Gone are the days when food deliveries were limited to fast-food chains and sad restaurants with no in-store customers to serve. With people becoming busier and relying more on such services to feed them during hectic days (when was the last time you left your desk for lunch?), food delivery companies are stepping up to the plate with more and better options. Now you can order a meal from your favourite hip cafe or Taiwan porridge restaurant - and have it sent to your doorstep within the hour. Below, four of the best delivery services here, to bring you awesome grub no matter where you are

1. Foodpanda

One of the biggest food-delivery companies in Singapore, Foodpanda needs no introduction. Since it was founded in 2012, it has become the nation’s go-to option, with over 500 restaurants under its wing. The biggest problem used to be that service was slow - you sometimes had to wait for a couple of hours for a meal, which just didn’t cut it. But the company has just introduced its own fleet of 500 couriers on motorbike, which means your food arrives much faster. (Fact: Our recent Toa Payoh to Thomson Burger King delivery took only 20 minutes!) Badass much? Something else to be excited about: Sushi Burrito, Nandos, The Soup Spoon and popular café The Assembly Ground have just joined Foodpanda’s line-up.

2. Deliveroo

Deliver landed here from the UK last month and is dedicated to bringing high-quality food from the best restaurants to you. Through this new kid on the block, you can enjoy delicious meals from Extra Virgin Pizza, Cedele, Fix Cafe and MEATliquor, amongst many others. Currently, only five areas are being served - Bukit Timah, Kallang, Katong, the Central Business District and Tanglin - but the company’s hoping to add 11 more districts by year’s end. We love the user-friendly interface, which allows you to sign up and order super easily.

3. Afiko

This local start-up doesn’t have a wide range of restaurants, but what it does have is quality. Think popular partners like Korean fried chicken chain Kko Kko Nara and nasi padang joint Hajah Maimunah, many of which offer both a la carte options and bento sets. Note that Afiko is targeted towards corporate deliveries, so all orders have a $30 delivery fee, no matter your location.

4. Gourmet To Go

Not the most well-known service, but what’s cool about Gourmet To Go is that it links you up with restaurants serving a wide range of cuisines. There are some really exciting and exotic choices, including Al Qasr, a Lebanese and Middle-Eastern restaurant, and Fifth Season, which serves Tibetan momos (a type of dumpling). Delivery charges range from $4 to $14, depending on where you are.
