Say Hello To Kitty

You’ve queued for the plush toy, now head to the carnival

Forty is obviously the new 20 for Hello Kitty — the cartoon British school girl (nope, she’s not a cat) hit the big 4-0 last year and has been celebrating ever since.

If you’ve taken a ride on one of the new Hello Kitty planes and buses, eaten at the Hello Kitty Chinese Cuisine Restaurant and snapped up the Hello Kitty X Brother labeller released earlier this year, the next step is to literally immerse yourself in the world of Sanrio’s most famous cartoon at Singapore’s first Hello Kitty Go Around!

This Kitty-themed carnival is travelling for the first time outside Hong Kong and opens its doors here today. Before you go on a frenzy, here’s a breakdown of what you can do on-site.

Take (loads) of pictures

Decorated like a Hello Kitty shrine and featuring a colour palette in 50 shades of sweet pink and red, every spot here is perfect for a photo-op. There are particular areas, however, that have been specially created for super-Instagram-worthy selfies including the Hello Kitty Party Hall, a large merry-go-round and the Ferris Wheel.

Relive your childhood

As with any carnival, there are of course carnival games that are similar to the ones we used to play at pasar malams - except a hundred times cuter. Do a little fishing in the Save the Goldfish booth and show off your prowess in ring tossing at Tiny Chum’s Ring Toss.

Tap into your artsy side

Hello Kitty ropes her childhood sweetheart Dear Daniel in for the festivities too. At his Kitty Totes by Dear Daniel workshop, you can customise your very own tote bag using stamps featuring portraits of Hello Kitty that Daniel has collected throughout the years. For badass kitty fans, get yourself inked at the Tattoo Kiosk helmed by Hello Kitty’s friend Kuromi.

Celebrate Hello Kitty’s 41st Birthday

On 1 November, Hello Kitty herself will be flying down to commemorate her 41st with fans. Join the birthday girl as she celebrates with riveting dance performances, a meet-and-greet session and a cake-cutting ceremony. Even better, 30 lucky winners will be picked from a lucky draw to take photos with Hello Kitty. There are only 1,000 tickets available for the birthday meet-up, so grab your tickets fast!

The Hello Kitty Go Around will be held at The Coliseum at Resorts World Sentosa from 16 October to 1 November. For more info and ticket prices, head here.
