Sorry, Westsiders. No matter what you say about the West side of Singapore coming to life in the past few years, the East remains the undisputable king when it comes to food.
And now, thanks to the new 16-storey Hotel Indigo Singapore Katong, perhaps it will rule the realm of staycations too.
Stepping into the reception area of this InterContinental Hotels Group property is enough to make your eyes pop: There are Peranakan ceramic tiles, pop-art renditions of water jars and vivid murals. Its 131 deluxe and premier rooms reflect the typical layout of a Peranakan home (hence the deep yet narrow spaces), and are thoughtfully kitted out with Nespresso machines, aromatherapeutic toiletries from Biology Smart Skincare and free wifi.
The Katong spirit extends to the hotel’s all-day dining restaurant, Baba Chews Bar & Eatery, which serves ayam buah keluak and foie gras tau kwa pau. Down it all with Common Man Coffee Roasters java and TWG Tea, then work off those calories with a dip in the rooftop infinity pool.
The best time to go? Now, because in celebration of the hotel’s opening, rack rates start at just $171++ per night. This offer is valid till 30 September, 2016.
Hotel Indigo Singapore Katong is located at 86E East Coast Road. More info here.
