Another George R.R. Martin Novel Is Coming To TV

Is this the start of another all-consuming relationship with a TV series?

For those who are still reeling over the fact that season seven of Game of Thrones will be the second-last season, will contain less episodes, and will air later than expected, here’s a little bright spark in a time that is dark and full of terrors.

Another masterpiece by George R.R. Martin is coming to a TV screen near us! Universal Cable Productions, the same studio that produced hits like Mr. Robot and Battlestar Galactica, has gotten rights to the series Wild Cards.

Wild Cards is made up of 22 science-fiction novels and mosaic novels that revolve around a group of humans who’ve either acquired superhuman abilities or debilitating physical conditions after an alien virus hits earth. The books themselves aren’t solely written by George R.R. Martin — 30 authors, who have come together as the Wild Cards Trust, contribute to the series, while R.R. Martin and his co-editor Melissa Snodgrass edits.

In terms of genre, it’s nothing like Game of Thrones' medieval-fantasy. But if you’re a fan of the multi-faceted universes George R.R. Martin creates in his books, and superhero comics like anything from Marvel or DC, Wild Cards will be right up your alley.

Also, since George R.R. Martin is still working on Game of Thrones with HBO, and is still writing the sixth book of the series, Winds of Winter, assistant editor Melinda Snodgrass, along with Gregory Noveck, will serve as executive producers for the adaptation of Wild Cards.

There’s no news yet on when the TV adaptation will be out, but as George R.R. Martin himself puts it, “Of course, Hollywood is Hollywood, and nothing is ever certain in development. But I think, I hope, I cross my fingers that the Wild Cards will be coming to your home screens in the next year or two.”

While this won’t make the approaching end of Game of Thrones any less painful, at least we now know we have another intriguing world to dive into once GoT is done.
