5 Ways Drinking Lemon Water Will Benefit You

A few glasses a day will keep the doctor even further away

We are not sure why, but just looking at a picture of lemons instantly wakes us up. It could be the vibrant yellow of its zest or the mouth-puckering tartness of its juice that we are immediately reminded of. Whichever it is, there’s no denying that the lemon is like a citrusy icon of health.

Besides its reinvigorating properties, lemons pack plenty of other benefits as well. And the best way to get the most of its goodness is to drink it all up.

Still, because of its high acidity, lemon juice needs to be diluted in water so that it doesn’t harm the enamel of your teeth or upset gastric processes. So mix up a bottle every day and drink to your own good health!

1. It will kick-start your day

Add half a lemon’s juice to a glass of room-temperature or warm water and drink it half an hour before breakfast — it’ll help your body absorb the nutrients better. It will also boost your energy levels when the negative-charged ions in it hit your digestive tract, which means you won’t even need that morning coffee anymore.

2. It gets you going

You’ll have an easier time on the throne, so to speak. Lemon water loosens toxins in your digestive tract and also stimulates your liver so as to keep things moving in your gastrointestinal tract smoothly. It can also relieve indigestion.

3. It guards you from viruses

You need vitamin C to keep your immunity levels up. Lemon water is an ideal way to top up on your daily dose — have a bottle ready by your side so you can sip on it throughout the day.

4. It gives you that glow

By that, we mean that it promotes skin health. The antioxidants in lemon water will fight free radical damage and also get your system to produce more collagen, which keeps skin youthful-looking and plump.

5. It helps you shed pounds

Lemons contain pectin, a type of fibre found in many fruits. It’ll keep you feeling full for longer, so that you won’t feel the urge to snack or have the tendency to overeat.
