“Dear Meryl, please forgive me!”

This year’s Golden Globes sent a strong message in support of the #TimesUp movement against sexual harassment. Actors and actresses collectively turned up in black ensembles for the awards ceremony. Some darlings even went a step further by opting for black nails (Kerry Washington, Nicole Kidman and Michelle Williams, to name a few).

Among the audience last evening was none other than Mariah Carey, whose recent New Year’s Eve hot tea moment became 2018’s first meme.

The Emotions singer, dressed in a floor-grazing Dolce & Gabbana number, was one of the contenders for Best Original Song award which eventually went to This Is Me from The Greatest Showman.

Being the good sport that she is, Mariah sent her blessings to songwriters Benj Pasek and Justin Paul via Twitter. She wrote, “Congratulations ‘This Is Me’! A beautifully written song and very deserving. Marc and I will try another year!”

During a commercial break, Mariah was so exhausted from the intense mingling that she crashed in the the nearest empty seat, right next to director Steven Spielberg no less. Little did the pop diva know that the seat belonged to, wait for it, Meryl Streep.

'Fessing up to her faux pas, Mariah tweeted:

Seating mishap aside, Mariah was delighted to attend the ceremony, especially in the presence of so many other strong women.

In a later tweet, she said: “Last night was so much fun and empowering at the same time. I feel blessed to have stood alongside these strong, beautiful women!”

We can’t help but agree with you, Mariah! Now, can we have some tea please?
