The Most Memorable Victoria’s Secret Fantasy Bras Through The Years

Including the very first million-dollar bra created by the lingerie label.

At the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, which is to be held for the first time in Asia and broadcast come 28 November, Brazilian model and VS Angel Lais Ribeiro will be walking down the runway in the pièce de résistance of the show — the US$2 million gem-set Champagne Nights Fantasy Bra (pictured above).

This 2017 version of the annual highlight of the VS show is set with close to 6,000 precious gemstones including diamonds, yellow sapphires and blue topaz in 18K gold.

The master that Victoria’s Secret partnered to produce this dazzling brassiere? Swiss-Emirati jeweller Mouawad, who is also the name behind most of the Fantasy Bras, which — if you didn’t know — began their history in 1996 (scroll down to see the very first of them all).

Claudia Schiffer was the first model to wear a Fantasy Bra (in 1996), albeit not on the runway. This one was kept a catalogue item and valued at US$1 million. It featured 1,000 carats worth of diamonds and other gemstones.

If being signed on as a Victoria’s Secret Angel represents a major notch in a model’s career, then being appointed wearer of the Fantasy Bra for the year is an achievement on a whole other level. It’s a well-known fact that only the hottest It models are given that special honour.

You’ll instantly recognise the recurring faces, or rather, the famous catwalk figures who wore the Fantasy Bras over the years. As for the bras from the past, however — you may not have seen all of them. Follow us as we take a look back at some of the most memorable Fantasy Bras over the years:

1. The first to appear on the runway

The Heavenly Star Fantasy Bra
Year: 2001
Worn by: Heidi Klum
Value: US$12.5 million

The first Fantasy Bra that was modelled on the runway also looked the tamest, perhaps due to the discreetly sized pink sapphires that form a scalloped pattern over the cups. There’s a whopper in the centre of the bra though — a 90-carat internally flawless emerald-cut diamond from Mouawad.

2. The most expensive

The Red Hot Fantasy Bra
Year: 2000
Worn by: Giselle Bündchen
Value: US$15 million

Covered in Thai rubies, this bra held the Guinness World Record for the most expensive piece of lingerie ever created for a few years. It’s still the priciest item Victoria’s Secret has ever created.

3. The most modern

The Very Sexy Fantasy Bra
Worn by: Heidi Klum
Value: US$11 million

In our book, that is, this is the most contemporary Fantasy Bra created. The sleek triangular bikini-like style makes it look totally wearable, if not for the fact that it is covered in diamonds and gemstones in a spectrum of colours — not forgetting the 69.68-carat central dangling diamond.

4. The most exotic

The Dream Angels Fantasy Bras
Worn by: Adriana Lima and Alessandra Ambrosio
Value: US$2 million each

For the first time in the history of the Fantasy Bra, two pieces were created in a single year. Made by Mouawad, these come with matching jewelled body chains that imbue these elaborate bras with a Middle Eastern charm. Put together, the barely there combis channel the vibe of costumes worn by belly dancers.

5. The sleekest

The Black Diamond Fantasy Bra
Year: 2008
Worn by: Adriana Lima
Value: US$5 million

Black diamonds are a rare sight on Fantasy Bras through the years. They add an element of sophistication, creating a piece that is refreshing in the sense that it is discreetly opulent. The biggest rocks on this bra are the double 100-carat black diamond drops suspended from its centre.

6. The one with the biggest diamond

The Sexy Splendor Fantasy Bra
Worn by: Giselle Bündchen
Value: US$12.5 million

As you can tell at this point, many of the Fantasy Bras sport a central dangling diamond. This one stands out because it has the biggest of them all to date — the Mouawad Splendor Diamond, an extraordinary 101.84-carat internally flawless pear-shaped diamond.
