Gigi Hadid has been keeping extremely busy so far in 2017. Besides walking the big-brand runways during Fashion Week season, the American model has also rolled out several collaborations with some of the most prominent fashion and beauty names. Among them are Tommy Hilfiger and Maybelline, both of which she’d had a role to play in designing.
The 22-year-old model isn’t showing any signs of slowing down. Before her turn on the runway of the upcoming Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, Hadid is set to release her second collection with Stuart Weitzman tomorrow.
Together with Stuart Weitzman’s new creative director Giovanni Morelli, Hadid has given the label’s pointed-toe mules a bold and playful update by adding in “evil eye” symbols. Called the Eyelove, the slides sport a single evil eye and are available in tan and deep-indigo suede. There’s also Eyelove More, which features multiple eye patterns, just like what its name suggests, and is available in frosted suede. The best part? Both eye-catching (geddit?) styles can easily be matched with anything from head-to-toe denim to flowy dresses.
On why she’s chosen the “evil eye” as her inspiration, Hadid highlights the superstitions behind it. “It’s a powerful symbol meant to protect those who wear it from negative energies,” she reveals. “It’s emotionally comforting, beautiful and captivating to look at.”
And just like her first collaboration with the shoe brand, her new collection will lend support to the non-profit Pencils of Promise organisation. Its goal is to gather a sum of $105,000, which will go towards building schools in Ghana, Guatemala and Laos, providing education for the children who are living in these developing nations.
