When it comes to sneakers, we’ll admit that we have an undying love for classics like a good ol' pair of Adidas Stan Smiths. Why? We love how they go with pretty much everything in our wardrobes — they lend an athleisure appeal to almost any ensemble; from a simple T-shirt-and-jeans combo to a pantsuit fit for the office.
The sporty kicks are a hot fave in the fashion circuit too — Victoria Beckham, Bella Hadid and Phoebe Philo, to name a few big names, have been seen wearing them. But for the animal-rights activists among us, the original Adidas Stan Smiths may not necessarily be an option because they are made out of animal leather.
Thankfully, that’s about to change as the first-ever vegan Stan Smith sneakers will soon be available. To be released in September 2018, the new Stella #stansmith is the brainchild of long-time collaborators Adidas and Stella McCartney.
Much like the original Stan Smiths, the Stella #stansmith features the face and signature of world no. 1 American tennis player, Stan Smith, on the right shoe tongue. The left shoe tongue will sport designer Stella McCartney’s portrait and signature.
Stella, who’s a vegetarian, has always been concerned with sustainability when designing her collections. The 46-year-old fashion designer is a huge advocate of cruelty-free fashion, and she follows a no-leather and no-fur policy in her designs. Her latest Loop sneakers, for example, are made from eco-friendly materials that are fully recyclable. They are built to be “Lego-like”, and come with detachable soles that bind the upper sneaker with the soles without using any glue.
The new Stella #stansmith sneakers will be available for pre-order from 5 September 2018 on https://www.stellamccartney.com/sg. They will be available worldwide in stores from 10 September 2018.
