Last night the one and only Madonna kicked off her Rebel Heart Tour in Montreal, Canada, and what she wore was nothing less than spectacular. One of our favourites: The Gucci costumes created by the brand’s creative director Alessandro Michele for the singer and her dancers - and we have the sketches right here.
“It has been a marvellous experience and a great gift collaborating with Madonna. Now that I have had the chance to see her working, I truly understand why she is so grand! I believe she is a true artist and I am crazy about her,” gushed Michele.
According to a very detailed description from the Italian house, the 57-year-old pop icon donned a romantic gypsy look “comprising a lurex-lace-and-jacquard bodysuit with an embroidered belt, lace short sleeves and multi-coloured trimmings, plus a black crêpe de Chine skirt with embroidered patches and black georgette ruffles, a black crêpe de Chine and georgette shawl with embroidered patches and silk fringes, lace gloves with pleated jacquard ruffles, and to finish it off, high-heeled knee-high lace-up leather boots and a black hat adorned with silk flowers”.
To finish off the look: The lace-up shoe of the moment, with Michele’s signature half-moon heel in a gold hue.
Meanwhile, Madonna’s dancers wore custom-designed Gucci ensembles to complement her. Think patchwork ruffled bodysuits under brocade jackets and Tehuana-inspired capes adorned with silk flowers, as well as pleated neckpieces and floral hair creations. Wonderfully extravagant for backup dancers, no? Only Madonna.
With that fashion fiesta, Gucci joins a stellar list of labels that have created costumes for this world tour, such as Prada and MiuMiu, Alexander Wang (remember his cameo in her video B***h I’m Madonna?), Jeremy Scott, Fausto Puglisi and of course Jean Paul Gaultier, who also created her iconic conical bra.
The tour will extend to Australia and Southeast Asia in 2016. However, the jury’s still out on whether the star will head to Singapore. Meanwhile, you can find a full list of tour dates and ticket information here.
