With Cruise collections becoming an increasingly significant part of the annual fashion make-up (they’re trans-season, hence practical and gorgeous), brands are using their Cruise shows as cinematic platforms to showcase what they can do across geographical and cultural boundaries.
Which means Cruise season has become perhaps the most fun of all, at least for fashion watchers (we won’t speak for the logistics crews). Just think – in recent years, everyone from Dior to Chanel has taken to the road to sprinkle sartorial magic everywhere from Tokyo to Havana.
The latest brand to hit up an exotic location for Cruise? Louis Vuitton, which will show its 2017 collection this weekend (29 May at 3.30am Singapore time). And it promises to be one to watch. Ahead, three reasons why any self-respecting fashion fan should not miss this – plus the livestream of the show!
1. It’s in Rio De Janeiro
That’s right – Rio. I.e. the second-largest city in Brazil, which just happens to be the country that’s hosting the 2016 Olympics. And whether you’re for or against the sports event being held there, there’s no question about it: The Pindorama (land of the palms) is the most captivating place to be this year.
2. The show venue makes history
It’s at the Niteroi Contemporary Art Museum, a landmark building that was designed by the renowned late Brazilian architect, Oscar Niemeyer, and that celebrates its 20th anniversary this year. This is the first time the flying saucer-shaped museum has ever hosted a fashion show. Following the show, Louis Vuitton will support the museum’s artistic programming for a year, with four major exhibitions.
3. Perfect pieces by *swoon* Nicolas Ghesquiere!!
Has there ever been a time the designer’s vision has disappointed? We didn’t think so. Following what the Louis Vuitton artistic director showed for Cruise in Monaco in 2014 (above) and Palm Springs last year, we can’t wait to see what he has up his splendid sleeves this time. Watch it all below.
