Gelyn Ong is only 11 but has already accomplished more than some people in their lifetime. The young Singaporean artist, whose heart is big as she is diminutive, has used her talent to raise almost $700,000 for various charities over the past few years.
Now, Ong has teamed up with up-and-coming Vietnamese fashion label Phuong My - which will start retailing here at Takashimaya from October - on a limited edition dress collection. To commemorate SG50, the young artist has created abstract watercolour paintings featuring our national flower, the orchid, which will be printed onto the fabric used to make the dresses. Her beautiful pieces + Phuong My’s dramatic use of ruffles and draping = a collab we can’t wait to see.
The collection, together with four of Ong's orchid paintings, will be launched on 2 October at Takashimaya. What’s really cool: All proceeds will go towards the Make-A-Wish Foundation, which helps grant the wishes of children with life-threatening illnesses. Only 15 pieces (five styles, each in three sizes and priced between $800 and $1,500) will be available, so get ready to start shopping for good.
