Fashion Gets The Pokémon Treatment & It’s Amazing

Magic happens when cartoons meet high fashion

When we said the ’90s were back, we definitely did not expect the resurgence of iconic ’90s cartoon and console game Pokémon via the now insanely popular mobile game Pokémon Go.

But it seems like one individual might have predicted the resurgence of Pokémon. Canadian stylist Francis has been combining two of his passions — fashion and Pokémon — by digitally restyling fashion campaigns, and posting them on his website since a couple of years back.

Pikachu, JigglyPuff, Meowth and Clefairy are among the many Pokémon who’ve joined human models in ad campaigns by the likes of Chanel, Prada and Miu Miu. They aren’t slipshod jobs either — each Pokemon seems to be thoughtfully chosen for each campaign, and is placed so carefully in the image that it fits in more naturally than Joan Rivers’ worked-on nose on her face.

The fashion industry is definitely no stranger to using animation (Nicolas Ghesquiere, for one, picked Final Fantasy’s Lightning to front Louis Vuitton’s Series 4 campaign), so here’s hoping we’ll see more animated creatures from our childhood as faces of our favourite labels in time to come.
