Does the name Demna Gvasalia ring a bell?
We’re guessing it won’t for most. After all, Gvasalia is the co-founder of young upcoming fashion collective, Vêtements, known mainly (for now at least) to the fashion crowd.
Its aesthetics? Think urban wardrobe staples of hoodies, jeans, T-shirts, bomber jackets, injected with a whole lot of attitude.
Prior to setting up his own label with six other designers, the 34-year-old Georgian designed at Louis Vuitton and Maison Martin Margeila. Vêtements was launched in 2014.

But the little-known designer may soon be a household name. He’s been picked by Kering - the luxury group that owns Balenciaga - to be Balenciaga’s artistic director.
“Demna Gvasalia embodies a unique approach to the profession, marked by a sociological observation of the wardrobe’s essentials and the way he remains humble and rigorous in his creative work. I am convinced that he will lead Balenciaga to a successful future,” says François-Henri Pinault, Kering’s president and CEO.
Will Gvasalia be able to hold up Balenciaga while bringing Vêtements to greater heights? Or will he end up like former head designer Alexander Wang, who left after two years to focus on his own brand?
