There’s something to be said for dainty timepieces in an age where bigger is perceived as better for watch faces. Interestingly, such pieces – like the Rolex Oyster Perpetual Lady-Datejust – demonstrate true longevity, outliving the ebb and flow of trends.
Sporting one speaks volumes of the wearer: Of her individualistic character and her penchant for grace, all distilled down to one poignant, elegant statement on the wrist.
This classic feminine beauty was launched in the late 1950s as the women’s counterpart to the iconic Rolex Datejust. Designed specially to suit a lady’s wrist, the Lady-Datejust rose to fame in the world of horology as a fashionable and functional masterpiece. Till today, the Lady-Datejust collection’s longstanding popularity among the stars is testament to its timeless appeal.
Now Rolex has released a new size: The 28mm, a natural aesthetic evolution from its 26mm predecessor. It suits all wrists perfectly, while bestowing upon the wearer a combination of poise and presence.
The new Rolex Lady-Datejust 28 collection features refined lugs and a middle case, as well as a broad and clear dial. Crafted with noble materials created by the brand in its very own foundry, this exquisite timepiece is offered in 18ct yellow or Everose gold, or 950 platinum – the latter carved from a single block of the precious metal.
One is sure to stand out with the Lady-Datejust’s elaborate new dials, some of which display a unique colour effect, created using a dual process that prints a very fine motif on a traditional sunray finish.
Other arresting details include new, radiant gem-set hour markers, which truly enhance the time-reading experience. And thanks to Rolex’s patent hermetic construction used across all Oyster cases, the Lady-Datejust 28 is also completely waterproof up to a depth of 100m.
Within the heart of the Lady-Datejust 28 beats the calibre 2236, a new-generation, Swiss-certified self-winding mechanical movement developed and manufactured entirely by Rolex. Equipped with a patent Syloxi hairspring in silicon, this timepiece offers a superlative level of chronometric performance, unparalleled on a ladies’ watch.
Each is certified a Swiss chronometer by COSC (Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute), before being tested a second time by Rolex to ensure it satisfies the company’s criteria for precision – which are twice as exacting as those for an officially certified chronometer.
The finishing touch lies in the choice between two bracelets, closely integrated into the Oyster case to ensure secure wear and comfort. The prestigious President bracelet derives its distinctive name from the eminent figures who have worn the watch it was originally designed for. Meanwhile, the Jubilee bracelet is a supple and sumptuous bracelet designed in 1945 that is an authentic symbol of the entire Datejust collection of the past decades.
Both are fitted with a new-generation concealed Crownclasp that opens with a hinged Rolex crown.
