After a very successful first instalment in 2015, Singapore Fashion Week is back again this year to showcase even more amazing local and international talent, through more exciting programmes!
Now, if you thought last year’s was good, get ready to have your mind blown. Here are 5 awesome reasons why we can’t wait to get our tickets for SGFW.
1. The line up is filled with Asian powerhouses
It was great that we got to see the biggest names in fashion like Diane Von Furstenberg and Victoria Beckham last year, but in this year’s run, it’s time to celebrate the best Asian designers. Show attendees include acclaimed Indian-American fashion designer Naeem Khan, Chinese couturier Guo Pei, and popular label Self-Portrait, created by Malaysian-born designer Han Chong. There will also be showcases of emerging and established local labels like Ong Shunmugam, Exhibit, and Arissa X, an accessories label by style star Arissa Cheo.
2. You can discover more fashion labels in a shorter amount of time
No, don’t worry, we don’t mean SGFW is going to be held over a shorter period of time this year — there are just going to be more programmes during the week. Besides the main SGFW runway shows, the event is also launching Singapore Fashion Week Access (SGFWA), a more accessible and flexible platform for designers to present their collections. Designers under the SGFW Fashion Futures 2.0 programme — including Max Tan of MAX.TAN, Danelle Woo of Aijek, Elyn Wong of Stolen — will present their first solo shows under SGFWA.
3. DFW is now part of SGFW
SGFW announced earlier this year that it has acquired Digital Fashion Week (DFW). While it might not seem like this piece of news would be important to people outside of both organisations, what this means for us as attendees, is that the best of each event has been brought together. DFW’s strong use of online and social media has been integrated into this year’s edition of SGFW, through 360° virtual reality live-streaming and personal live-streams by DFW Insiders.
4. All our favourite social media stars and celebs are involved
No fashion week is complete without a host of fashion influencers, and SGFW boasts a list of renowned global names. Follow homegrown celeb and social media stars — like DJ Rozz Lee, Elementary Co.’s co-founder Charmaine Seah-Ong and content creator Bella Koh — around as they navigate SGFW. DFW’s local and international Insiders will also be joining in, including popular USA fashion YouTuber Jenn Im, Malaysian husband-and-wife fashion duo Kim Raymond Foo and Keith Foo and Singapore’s own Andrea Chong.
5. You can buy almost everything immediately
The fashion industry as a whole has seen plenty of change over the year, and to adapt, SGFW will be adopting the “See Now, Buy Now” system that’s been used by brands like Burberry and Tom Ford. Thanks to collaborations with retail partners like Gallery & Co., Zalora, Boutique Fairs Singapore and Tangs, everything you see on the SGFW runway might just end up in your wardrobe in just 24 hours.
Singapore Fashion Week will be held from 26 to 30 October 2016 at the National Gallery Singapore. For more information, head here.
