It’s funny how every time I travel to Tokyo, I return with a suitcase full of facial cotton pads. It may all sound very frivolous (or aunty), but let me explain: These pads take your skincare routine to a whole new level.
The trinity I usually stock up on: Shiseido Facial Cotton, Cle de Peau Beaute Cotton and The Ginza Shiseido Cotton. Yes, they’re pricier than the sort you can get from Guardian or Watsons, but they’re totally worth it.
You’ll feel the difference the moment you touch them. Developed for use with skincare, they are firm (we’re talking more than 15 sheets of cotton layered together to make a single pad) yet cushiony at the same time. Besides having a larger surface area than many other cotton pads, they also feel soft on skin and won’t leave fibres all over your face during use – especially on lashes when you’re removing mascara.
And because there are many layers of cotton pressed together, each pad can evenly distribute your precious skincare onto your skin better than your fingertips. (Don’t worry, you won’t lose more product to the cotton pad than you would if you used your hands.)
I also find them extremely sturdy, so I use them as a quickie mask as well. I douse a couple of pads in a hydrating essence and split them apart. Then I apply one piece on my forehead, one on each cheek, and one on the chin – which is great for prepping the skin before makeup.
They’re really versatile and worth lugging back - the only thing I don’t use them for: Removing nail polish, because that would be such a waste!
