Yes, There’s A Perfect Temperature Setting For Your Styling Tool

Get it right and your hairstyle will last longer - promise

Isn’t it frustrating how your carefully styled hair sometimes unravels the moment you step out into the humidity?

While we there’s little we can do about the weather, there is a fix for your ’do - and it’s amazingly simple.

GHD leading guest hairstylist Marco Chan, who was recently in town for the launch of GHD in Sephora, says it all boils down to the temperature of your styling tool.

“The biggest mistake people make is to use their styling tools at a temperature that’s too high or too low. The optimal temperature should be 185 degrees [Fahrenheit; about 85 degrees Celsius],” says Chan, who’s worked on the TV series America’s Next Top Model and with the likes of Gwyneth Paltrow, Kate Moss, Keira Knightley and Kylie Minogue.

At that temperature, hair can be “manipulated” into the desired style with minimum damage. This also helps strands hold the style throughout the day.

If you’re using a styling tool such as a straightener or curler at 200 degrees F, you’ll get results fast, but your hairdo won’t last because the high heat will damage your tresses. Conversely, if you set your tool at 150 degrees F, it won’t be hot enough to manipulate your hair.

Chan says GHD hair stylers are always set at the optimal 185 degrees F, so heat is evenly dispersed from roots to ends for the best results.

If your styling tool has a temperature setting, make sure to set it to that number. Otherwise, try to work within the 170 to 190 degree F temperature range.

Another tip to keep your style in place: Wash your hair regularly. “You’ll want to work on clean hair because too much grease can weigh tresses down,” says Chan.

Now you’re all set for a day of perfectly styled hair.
