The Futuristic Hair Gadget That Tops Our Wish List

This cuts drying time in half

Update 18 July 2016:

Dyson has announced that it’s launching the Dyson Supersonic here on 5 August! It will be priced at $599 (slightly cheaper than in Japan, yay) and will be available at major department and electrical stores. If you can’t wait to get your hands on this, you can pre-order yours exclusively from Tangs via its website from 20 July onwards.

Original article below:

We were walking the streets of Tokyo, Japan last week when we saw posters and videos of a new Dyson device plastered all over the store’s windows. When we think Dyson, we think high-tech fans and vacuums. So of course we dashed into the store for a closer look when we realised it was neither.

Say hello to this futuristic-looking device: The Dyson Supersonic hair dryer. Unlike other hair dryers, it doesn’t have a nozzle or funnel. What it does have however, is a hollow circular feature right down the middle, just like the brand’s fans. And like Dyson’s other devices, it makes use of the brand’s patented Air Multiplier technology to suck air into the motor and amplify its strength, creating a direct jet of air for smooth strands that can be dried and styled simultaneously.

With three speed and four heat settings, this baby is engineered for fast drying (read: No more waiting around for hair to dry) and reduces heat damage to give hair a natural shine. Besides getting the job done faster, it also has negative ions to reduce frizz and static. Plus, it comes with high-tech magnetic styling attachments.

We tried it in Tokyo and would like to report that the tiny device (weighing just 618 grams) delivers a powerful stream of air that’s stronger than other hair dryers we have used.

It’s so sleek, handy and perfect for travel that we can't wait to get our hands on one. But we'll have to start saving as the Dyson Supersonic doesn't come cheap. We’re not sure when the Supersonic will be rolling out in Singapore (we hear it will be), but it’s currently available in Japan for ¥48,600 (about SG$615).
