Dior bottles joy in its new blockbuster fragrance

Here’s what the new perfume, fronted by Jennifer Lawrence, smells like.

Dior has always been devoted to women’s happiness and now, 20 years since the release of its well-loved J'adore, the brand has unveiled the next big thing in its fragrance category — an entirely brand new women’s scent that embodies delight. Fronted by actress Jennifer Lawrence, Joy by Dior is designed to bring wearers a sense of bliss and will launch at all Dior counters on 3 September 2018.

Created by Parfums Christian Dior perfumer-creator François Demachy, Joy by Dior is described as a scent that cannot be categorised by its notes (of which it has pretty much everything — fresh, heady, floral and milky) — it is an entirely sensorial experience.

“Each of us perceives light, without thinking about it, in our own way. This perfume is constructed in a similar manner, thanks to its multiple nuances and myriad facets, which lead to a crystal-clear fragrance experience,” explains Demachy.

“It should rally and delight both men and women… I was fortunate to know its name from the beginning. And what a name! Short and lively, yet not affected, it is open to all possibilities. To tell its story, I chose to create an enveloping scent, marked by softness as well as by energy. Joy by Dior is a breath of air, a bath one travels, which carries you away.” - Parfums Christian Dior perfumer-creator François Demachy

So what does joy smell like to Dior? For starters, the scent opens with a vibrant blend of flowers and citrus fruits such as bergamot, mandarin, rose and jasmine — all of which will put a smile on your face. Its heart: An enveloping combination of warm and creamy sandalwood, cedar and patchouli that makes way for a sensual and intimate dry-down of a careful selection of musks that quietens into a powdery breath of air.

Joy by Dior EDP, from $115 for 30ml, available at all Dior counters from September 2018.
