If there’s a competition for the oiliest face, I’m quite sure I’ll make it to the semi-finals. Heck, I might even emerge as the winner. No thanks to oily skin, my adolescence and early adulthood were plagued by skin problems involving pesky pimples, enlarged pores and angry cystic acne (that’s all of my unglamorous past in one sentence).
These days, I've managed to control the oil slick, with the help of facial exfoliating pads and skincare products with salicylic acid, retinol and AHAs, as well as cutting out coffee entirely. But the hunt for the best beauty products for oily skin never ends for me, which I can imagine is the same for those of you out there who also suffer from the skin issues that I have.
Scroll down for some of the best beauty products that work for greasy complexions and, more particularly, for me.
Kora Organics Turmeric Brightening & Exfoliating Mask, $68
Want immediate brightening and skin-clearing results in a flash? This wash-off mask scrubs and treats your skin in a single step. More importantly, the blend of turmeric, papaya enzymes and peppermint promises a smoother and softer mien after every use.
Kiehl’s Blue Herbal Blemish Cleanser Treatment, $38
My skin is prone to clogged pores, blackheads and pimples. Thankfully, I now have this salicylic acid cleanser. It does a great job in washing away dirt and excess sebum, without leaving my skin feeling tight. The hint of frankincense and ginger root scents also turn your cleansing routine into a pampering step.
La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo(+) Corrective Unclogging Care, $42.90
Heavy creams are a no-go for my oily skin. This anti-imperfection cream feels ultra-light when applied evenly onto the face. It soaks up excess sebum and leaves a non-sticky finish that’s perfect for applying makeup. It also contains niacinamide, which promises to lighten and minimise skin redness and breakouts.
Lapothicell Natural Mineral Sun Protection, $26.90
Don't be misled by its thick, creamy texture — once you spread it onto the skin, it leaves a matte finish with no whitish cast at all. I’ve also noticed that I don’t have much midday shine issues on the days when I use this!
Anessa Perfect UV Spray, $30.90
Reapplying sunscreen during the day can be a chore, but thanks to this portable UV spray, it’s now easier than before. This multi-use sunscreen spray can be used on the face, body and hair, and it can also be applied over makeup. Its powdery finish is a godsend in our tropical climate.
YSL Beauté All Hours Foundation Stick, $88
Convenient packaging aside, you’ll fall in love with this foundation stick’s concealing powers. I’ve used it to cover an angry zit on my chin, and it worked like a charm! Whenever I need higher coverage, I just have to dab on a few more layers and I’m good to go. The lightweight and velvety finish is great for those who are after a long-lasting foundation and barely there makeup look.
