Kim Kardashian Swears By This Hair Treatment

And so should you

We’ve been wondering what makes Kim Kardashian’s hair look sooo good all the time. Especially after she bleached it and went platinum, and went back to brunette. How can anyone’s hair still look so soft and shiny after all that?

Luckily for us, the reality star shared her love for a hair-strengthening product called Olaplex. “When your hair is really damaged, if you sleep in that, it really works. I notice a huge difference,” said Kardashian.

So we asked around and the hair industry seemed to have nothing but praise for Olaplex. But what is it exactly? We don’t want to take you through a chemistry lesson, so in short, think of it like rehab for your mane. Its formula – free of silicone, sulfates, phthalates and other nasties –reconnects broken disulphide sulfur hair bonds, which break during thermal, mechanical and chemical services.

Colourists use the products because it allows them to take a customer’s hair platinum without worrying about hair damage. And we love it because our locks don't feel like hay after a dye job.

Though Olaplex's recommend use is to repair hair health after colouring, it can also be used to mend heat damage. “Since the treatment repairs hair bonds, it’s good for chemically stressed or damaged hair. It also can be used to prep hair for future chemical services,” explains Jorina Yong, senior technician at Miracle Hair Studio.

Still think that Opalex is just a glorified hydrating conditioner or hair mask? It’s so much more. According to the experts, the treatment can actually strengthen hair strands, for healthier and shinier tresses.

And when in doubt, we say, just try it out.

Opalex can be used as an in-salon treat or as part of your haircare regimen at home. Here’s how:

#1 Colour service upgrade, $50-$80
The Olaplex No.1 Bond Multiplier is added into the colour formulation when you go in for a hair colouring service. After processing, Olaplex No.2 Bond Perfector is applied before a shampoo. This can be done every time you go for a dye job.

#2 Olaplex treatment, $180-$220, 45 minutes to an hour
This in-salon treatment takes anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour. Strands are saturated with Olaplex No.1 Bond Multiplier and Olaplex No.2 Bond Perfector, shampooed and dried to reveal healthier strands. Depending on your needs, you can do this once or twice a month.

#3 Olaplex No.3, $70.
It’s easy to incorporate this into your haircare routine. Once or twice a week, douse hair generously with Olaplex No.3 Hair Perfector, leave on for at least 15 minutes before going about your usual shampoo and conditioning. We hear it’s best to leave it in for as long as possible and a fuss-free way: Use it before bed, and rinse it out in the morning, just like Kim K.

Olaplex is available at Miracle Hair Studio is at #03-22 Tanglin Mall, 6732-4222.
