Cleaning your face is easy peasy...or so you might think. According to surveys, a surprisingly large percentage of people actually get that 101 wrong (as much as 80 per cent, depending on who you ask!). To help save face - literally - here are some essential steps to washing it right.
Do this every evening, especially if you wear makeup. Start with an oil cleanser to remove all traces of makeup, especially waterproof eyeliner and mascara. This also helps to remove sunscreen effectively and prevent clogged pores. Follow up with a cleanser that suits your skin type - try a foam or gel cleanser for combination skin, or a cream or milk cleanser for dry skin.
Invest in a cleansing device
But don’t go overboard when using it. Too much too often can cause skin irritation, which can result in breakouts. Remember to just glide the device over the skin and let the brush do the cleaning. If you have sensitive skin, use the device twice a week as an alternative to exfoliation.
Always use lukewarm water when washing your face
Hot water strips skin of its natural oils, leaving it feeling tight and uncomfortable, while cold water is unable to dissolve makeup effectively, which can result in clogged pores.
