Park Hye-min, better known as Pony in the beauty world, has recently been named APAC ambassador for Shiseido’s revamped makeup range.
The 26-year-old makeup mogul, who established her makeup empire with her own line, Pony Effect, is a beauty superstar in her own right with an Instagram (@ponysmakeup) following of 5.5 million and over 4.4 million subscribers on her YouTube channel (Pony Syndrome).
We caught up with the K-beauty personality when she was in town for the celebration for the launch of the new Shiseido makeup line and of course we had to ask her for beauty hacks, her must-buy makeup product and favourite beauty trends.
How can one become as skilled at applying makeup as you are?
It’s important to practise. The best time to do so is at the end of the day before you remove your makeup. Take this time to experiment with different colours and makeup textures or that new eye look you’ve been wanting to try.
What is one makeup trend you’re currently loving?
The smudged-lip look has been trending since last year but I still love it. Get the look by blurring the edges of the outer lip line with a brush or cotton swab.
Radiant skin is always in. How can one achieve a gorgeous, glowing complexion?
I use the Shiseido Synchro Skin Glow Cushion Compact to achieve this. Sometimes, you have to give up coverage for a natural, glowing finish and this base, which offers sheer coverage, gives skin radiance without caking.
What is your one beauty must-buy this season?
The new Shiseido VisionAiry Gel Lipstick. It’s great for those who have dry lips like me but still want a formula with high colour pay-off. Plus, it glides on very smoothly.
Can you share some beauty tips with us please?
#1 To draw brows proportionally, I use an app on my phone that gives you a symmetrical reflection so you can always check if your makeup is even on both sides. There are a few apps that do so.
#2 Because I have sensitive skin, I don’t use physical scrubs. Instead, I use alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) once every three weeks to slough off any dead skin cells.
#3 I use the small and narrow dual-sided eyeshadow brushes that come in palettes or a thin makeup brush for many purposes. I use it to highlight my nose bridge and even to smudge my lip colour to create the blurred-lip look.
How do you keep your skin and body hydrated with your constant travelling?
Drinking water alone isn’t enough so I eat more vegetables when I travel and drink collagen powder to keep my skin hydrated on the go. I also always take mask sheets with me for anytime I need an extra moisture boost.
