1. Lisa Logan
She is perfection from head to toe. We could safely say that it is every girls dream to live Queen Bey‘s life — even if it’s just for a day.
Always flawlessly co-ordinated from her hair, makeup, to her outfit, there’s not a photo of Beyoncé’s where her nails are off the mark.
Ever wondered who is behind the Queen’s spectacular nails?
One of Beyoncé go-to manicurist is Lisa Logan.
Logan runs her own nail salon called The Nail Suite in New York City’s Harlem and met Beyoncé through the latter’s now-husband, then-boyfriend, Jay-Z.
Logan first got to know Jay-Z by chance. Two years later, the rapper decided to throw Beyoncé a birthday surprise — a self-pampering day where Logan was in charge of the Queen’s nails. The Queen has stuck with Logan ever since.
Here is one woman who has followed Beyoncé through numerous landmark moments in her career.
The list goes on: Logan did Bey’s nails for that golden, glorious, almost-religious performance at the 2017 Grammys (Remember? She was pregnant with twins Rumi and Sir Carter then).
Finally, a favourite of Logan’s: the 2008 “Single Ladies” music video.
2. Maria Salandra
Once an aspiring singer, the Italian-born Maria Salandra is now one of the most recognised celebrity nail artists in the beauty industry.
Salandra’s first exposure to nail art was through her uncle’s salon — a time when she was still pursuing her recording career. In 1990, she opened her very own salon in New Jersey. Ever since then, Salandra has been shuttling between both of her passions — managing her salon in the day and singing gigs at night. By a stroke of luck, she met Rihanna back in 2013 for the MTV Video Music Awards and established a close working relationship with the R&B sensation ever since.
Salandra’s nail career skyrocketed from then on.
She was the woman behind Badgalriri‘s over-the-top nails at the 2018 instalment of the Met Gala. With Catholic-theme embellishments and Swarovski crystals, Salandra created an extravagant stiletto set to fit the Heavenly Bodies theme. She also did Badgalriri’s recent rainbow-hued, Skittles birthday manicure which created quite a stir on the internet.
Aside from Riri, Salandra is also well known for her work for HBO iconic series The Sopranos and Anne Hatherway’s french tips Ocean’s 8.
3. Miho Okawara
Who would have expected Lady Gaga’s manicurist to be Japanese?
And that is just the first of surprises. While most of us would associate Japanese style nail art to be kawaii, the Japan-born nail artist Miho Okawara is everything but cute. She often pairs contrasting nail colours to match her clients’ skin tones, and uses advanced nail techniques and Japanese tools to create timeless intricate nail art.
Okawara’s first celebrity appointment was actually the American songwriter Kesha, who walked into her Los Angeles nail salon and stuck with her since then. Her work quickly gained recognition in the industry and was introduced to Ciara, Kelly Rowland and Beyoncé. Now, she is in-charge of Lady Gaga’s nails for major on-stage performances, red carpets, movie filming, magazine cover shoots — everything from the pop starlet’s onscreen to offscreen life.
4. Jenny Bui
Get ready… the Queen of Bling is here.
The self-proclaimed Queen of Bling, Jenny Bui, had a difficult childhood in Cambodia. When she first moved to New York City, she had nothing. Things were equally tough when she opened her first salon in Harlem — patrons looked down on her for her couldn’t speak English.
After years of endurance and hard work, Bui is now one of the most sensational nail artist in New York City thanks her distinct eye for all things bling — and, of course, to the 2018 Grammys winner, Cardi B.
Cardi B first stepped into to Bui’s Harlem salon some five years ago, hoping to get her nails done but was turned down — Bui was simply too busy to attend to her. Shocking! But yes.
Cardi didn’t give up though. She went back to the salon on another occasion and she left with manicured nails this second time. They’ve been inseparable since.
And Cardi flaunts them nails. From the Grammys to Instagram, she’s always with her perfect claws ladened with the most premium range of Swarovski crystals.
Aside from keeping up with Bui on Instagram, Cardi also visits the salon on a regular basis for her monthly manicures — and refuses to let other artist to do it.
Bui now has her own secret formula, Jenny Secret, a varnish coating formula to hold those Swarovski crystals in place. Bui is, too, the owner of two nail salons, namely Jenny’s Spa in The Bronx and Nails on 7th Ave in Harlem.
5. Natalie Minerva
Did you know that Ariana Grande‘s favourite colour is lavender?
The pop princess has a signature look. It’s the sky-high ponytail, those arched brows, winged eyeliner, and nude lipgloss. But there’s one more — perfectly oval-shaped and pastel-coloured nails.
Grande’s go-to manicurist, Natalie Minerva, the founder of Los Angeles-based salon, Nail Swag, revealed in an interview with Refinery29, that Grande is big fan of neutral colours, especially classic whites or lavender.
A secret to Grande’s healthy nails? Minerva only uses gel extensions (no acrylics!) on the singer. A soft gel soaks off easily, preventing damage to the nails from the constant buffing or filling that one gets with acrylic nails.
Everything else remains the same — soft gel nails gives you length and great colours like acrylic nails do. And this is a great tip for girls who enjoy changing up their nail colours often.
Apart from taking charge of Grande’s nails and managing an award-winning nail salon of her own, Minerva has also created a series of at-home gel nail art kits for her fans. Now, nail art lovers can try their hands on a salon-quality manicure at home. The kit includes six gel colours, a base coat, a top gel, a gel brush, nail art accessories, a manicure prep, removal kit and even an LED lamp. Now you can DIY Grande’s nails.
