Sweets, cookies, gassy sodas, spicy steamboat soup and fatty meats — there’s a party going on in your stomach and it ain’t a pretty scene. All that festive bingeing can easily take a toll on the digestive system, resulting in indigestion being one of the most common post-CNY ailments.
Clinics closed and can’t find any antacids in your cabinet? No fear — here are some easy home remedies to fix that rumbling in your belly.
1. Drink water
Sipping a little water provides some relief as it helps increase the gastric pH level. Take it at the first sign of indigestion and make sure that it’s warm or at room temperature.
2. Grate some ginger
This wonder spice is particularly good for those with digestive troubles. Add two teaspoons of ginger juice and one teaspoon of honey to a cup of warm water and drink it.
3. Take some baking soda
This baking ingredient acts like an antacid and can effectively neutralise the stomach acids that are giving your tummy grief. It also eases bloating. Stir half a teaspoon of baking soda into half a glass of water and take it.
4. Drink herbal tea
As a preventative measure, drink some herbal tea after eating a heavy meal. Peppermint and camomile tea, in particular, will help calm your stomach and curb digestive problems.
5. Stop the bingeing
Overeating is the main cause of indigestion, so it’s common sense to control the input. Eat smaller quantities, at a slower pace, and obviously stay away from spicy and oily food.
