Converse’s Chuck Taylor shoes are iconic and highly versatile, to say the least: Kids wear them to school, musicians wear them on the red carpet — Bruno Mars dedicated a line to them in his Mark Ronson collab, Uptown Funk: “Got Chucks on with Saint Laurent.”
They’re cool, casual — and loved by men, women and babies.
After being around for almost a century (98 years to be specific; the shoes launched in 1917), the sneakers are getting their first-ever redesign.
On the outside: The new Converse Chuck Taylor All Star II looks almost the same, except for a few tweaks like a fully-embroidered “All Star” patch and matte eyelets.
It’s the inside where you'll notice the biggest difference. The shoe that afforded zero arch support before this will now feature Nike technology. (ICYMI, Nike bought over Converse for US$305 million in 2003.)
The new Chucks will feature the ultra-comfy, neon yellow Nike Lunarlon for complete foot cushioning and arch support. And that’s not all. The collar is now padded, the gusseted tongue has been rendered non-slip and the perforated micro-suede liner means all-day comfort is guaranteed.
