Welcome To Disneyland For Oenophiles

A wine theme park now exists in France

Where is the best place to build a theme park that’s devoted to wine? In Bordeaux, naturally, the famed wine-making region in France. A mega project that took seven years in the making, La Cité du Vin (or the City of Wine) was officially opened yesterday by French president Francois Hollande, fulfilling the fantasy of wine lovers from all over the world.

Everything about the venue is related to the alcoholic drink – the architecture of the building is inspired by wine swirling in a glass and, inside, you’ll find a museum with 20 themed areas filled with exhibits about wine.

There is even a simulator boat ride, reimagining the maritime journey of a merchant’s galley across the globe, and on top of that, a tasting experience in a multi-sensory space with moving sets, 3D images and scents – truly theme-park fun designed for adults.

Of course, you can expect to drink quite a bit of wine – there are expert-led tasting sessions and also a boutique selling wine stocked from 80 countries. La Cité du Vin is an hour-long flight away from Paris and admission is priced at €20 – a small price to pay for the great fun, not to mention wine, you are about to have.
