Singapore’s Coolest New Offices Aren’t The Most Expensive

You even get networking and specialised equipment at these hip, bang-for-your-buck spots

There was a time when shared working spaces – offices divided up into pigeonhole-like structures that were rented out to different tenants – sent a message to the world that your business was either a) shady, or b) too poor to afford a “real” office. But somewhere along the line, these venues began getting a makeover. Now they’re ultra-hip spaces for cool companies like tech startups and VCs that come complete with bells and whistles to foster collaborative opportunities between tenants. Some even have cafeterias doling out yummy grub (here’s looking at you, The Working Capitol). If you’re looking to move out your biz out of a stuffy, expensive environment and into one of these happening hubs, here are some options.

Woolf Works

#02-01, 176 Joo Chiat Road

The first local co-working space dedicated to women, Woolf Works is named after the author Virginia Woolf and inspired by girl power. Founder Michaela Anchan, who’s from New Zealand, aims to get like-minded women together, so they can draw energy and support from each other. Comes fully equipped with office amenities, plus there’s plenty of great food in the area. What more can a woman ask for?

From $50/day or $600/month.

The Refinery

115 King George's Avenue

This industrial-chic workspace caters specifically to designers and craftsmen, who require unique setups that other co-working spaces don’t offer. With large workdesks, abundant natural lighting and specialised equipment such as 3D printers available, the place is a wonderland for creative types. It also houses a bar and a yakitori joint, and if that’s still not enough to seal the deal, know this: There’s free coffee and whiskey to go round, too.

From $300/month.

The Co

75 High Street

Spread over an entire eight-storey building in the CBD area, The Co houses a cool 202 office workstations, 50 co-working desks, three floors of event spaces and three conference rooms. But thanks to its plush furnishings and stylish décor (particularly in the communal areas), the last thing you’ll feel is that you’re in an office environment. The Co has won several awards for its design, and is the ideal environment if you’re looking to impress a client or need to work from a central location.

From $45/day or  $350/month.

2 Veerasamy Road

Workhouse has a funky, casual vibe that we imagine any creative set-up would fit perfectly into. Its location in Little India might be a tad offbeat, but the character of the place adds to its unusual appeal. Here, the open-concept design aims to encourage people to mingle and communicate instead of keeping to themselves in individual cubicles. The space also holds weekly networking sessions and even offers accounting and secretarial services.

From $450/month.
