Must Watch: Mambo Jambo — Blame It On The Boogie

Here’s how you can shimmy your way into the Zouk film and be a part of local film history

Calling all Mambo Jambo fans — Dave Tan needs your help. The former frontman of local band Electrico is working on a music documentary, Mambo Jambo — Blame It On The Boogie, which aims to capture the zeitgeist of the retro-themed dance party, the longest-running music event of its kind in the history of Singapore’s nightlife.

He’s been self-funding the project to date, but needs to raise a lot more moolah that will go towards acquiring music licences and other expenses. A crowdfunding campaign, hosted on StarHub’s Crowdtivate platform, was launched yesterday. So far, it’s raised $1,670 — which is a long way from the target of $75,000. But you do have till 19 September to fill the coffers.

Also, mark your calendars to be at Zouk on 8 August — long weekend baby! — for a massive Mambo Jambo bash. It’s when the final scene of the documentary is scheduled to be shot. Acting requirements? Dance along to your favourite retro classics and you could see yourself up on the big screen in the near future.
