Hipsters, You’ll Love These Weekend Markets

This is as far from mainstream as you can get

Big N Breezy Bazaar

You won’t need an air ticket to experience Bangkok’s Chatuchak Market this weekend. Online retailer Megafash has teamed up with restaurant/bar/roving pop-up pros Lepark to bring you the best of fashion, food, art and music, at — get this — the rooftop of a carpark.

Shop vintage-y swimwear from Thailand’s Aprilpoolday, tees from Indonesia’s Sociotees (featuring animals doing badass things), and Singapore beauty and lifestyle brand The Botanical Plate. Like Chatuchak, there’ll be over 100 independent brands from Singapore and the region, so you’ll be spoilt for choice.

Of course, no market is complete without artisanal coffee. And here, Chief Coffee Company, Cuppa Ministry and Nomad the Gallant Coffee Co. will be at the bazaar to keep you buzzed as you shop, along with other local delights.

And since indie music is now just so...commercial, there’ll be local getai - brought to you by the folks from the Getai Group - to groove to throughout the day.

Visit Big N Breezy Bazaar on 7 and 8 November at People’s Park Complex Carpark Rooftop.

Market Of Experiences X Andsoforth

Happening on the same weekend is Market of Experiences, held in collaboration with Andsoforth, the theatre dining company that brought us the Karl Experience. Like its name suggests, this weekend market will offer much more than just retail therapy.

The list of interactive activities goes on: Learn the art of flower arrangement with florists from With Every, join a cooking class by the Brunch Bandits and score free books at the Movable Library booth. There’ll also be slam poetry, a drawing saloon and an art exhibition to cater to your inner artist.

What we’re most interested in (if only because we have no idea what it is) is the tarot poetry segment by local tarot reader and artist Irving Paul Pereira. Colour us intrigued.

Just wanna shop and eat? Don’t worry, there are plenty of options for you too, like minimalistic wardrobe classics from Hyphenthelabel, chilli sauce from Mofo Chili and pretty stationery from The Paper Bunny.

Fuel up further with crispy roast pork by Uncle G’s Handmade, then cool down with ice cream from Neh Neh Pop before heading back to shop. All these while being serenaded by local bands — talk about a full-on experience.

Visit Market of Experiences X Andsoforth on 7 November at 16D Lorong Ampas (a warehouse next to Wheeler’s Yard).
