Fun Things To Do Today If You Don’t Celebrate Christmas

Christmas spirit not required

For many, Christmas is a time of gathering with your friends and family over a table of food and drinks, heading church and singing Christmas carols. But what if you don’t celebrate the holiday? Here are four fun, alternative things to do today that don’t involve any of those things.

1. Go ice-skating

Have a ball of fun while escaping the heat and head to an ice-skating rink! There are three ice-skating rinks in Singapore so far, but the only one that’s open today is The Rink at Jurong’s JCube. In addition to its public skating sessions, there will even be bumper cars on the ice from 5pm to 9.30pm!

2. Visit Haw Par Villa

It sounds like a strange suggestion, but hear us out. Haw Par Villa would be the last place anyone would think of going to during Christmas, so wouldn’t this be great for those who want to escape the holiday crowd? The park, know for its statues, and often terrifying and gruesome depictions of Chinese folklore, makes for an unforgettable Christmas experience. Literally — you might get nightmares.

3. Head to a local farm

Go off the beaten track and head down to the Kranji countryside, where there are over a dozen local farms that are open for visits. See goats getting milked at Hay Dairies, feed Koi fishes at the Nippon Koi Farm and learn how to plant paddy fields at Bollywood Veggies. The area is a little out of the way, but we assure you, it will be worth it.

4. Go museum-hopping

Good news for culture vultures — the National Heritage Board’s annual Museum’s Open House is back. All eight museums and heritage centres under the board — including the National Museum of Singapore, Asian Civilisations Museum, Malay Heritage Centre and The Peranakan Museum — will be free to enter. There will also be activities for the kids like making snowmen and door ornaments, so it’ll be fun for both young and old.
