Not content to be a sought-after corporate lawyer fighting mergers and acquisitions cases, Min Tan will also decide what you’ll be watching at the cinemas. The managing partner at Colin Ng & Partners is one of the executive producers of local film company, Xietgeist Entertainment Group.
Its first project, the biopic The Man Who Knew Infinity, stars Jeremy Irons and Dev Patel as Indian mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan. It opens in Singapore later this year. A second project, spy thriller Damascus Cover — starring Jonathan Rhys Meyers, John Hurt and Olivia Thirlby — is in post-production. A third project, Shambhala, starts filming this month and also stars Rhys Meyers and Allan Wu.
A society-event fixture known for her high-end wardrobe, Tan has also found time to design her own capsule collection with scarf label Mad About Hue. With only 24 hours in a day, how does she do it all?
She laughs, “If there’s anything I have learnt in the past year, it is that if you have a passion for something, you will always be able to make time for it. Don’t put your heart’s desires on the back burner! It’s better to say ‘I can’t believe I did that’ than ‘I wish I had done that’.
“For me, strength is defined by the freedom of a woman to choose what she wants to do, to decide her own destiny and what makes her happy. And having the ability to make a difference to someone’s life makes me feel powerful.”
