“Smelly cat, smelly cat, what are they feeding you? Smelly cat, smelly cat, it’s not your fault.”
If you just sang that in your head, thank you. For proving my point, that is. Comedy sitcom Friends may have ended in 2004, but there’s no denying the undying legacy it has left behind.
Seems like only yesterday that the 10 season-long show - which followed the lives of six 20-something friends living in Manhattan who were struggling to find happiness, success and what it means to be a true friend - kept us glued to the telly.
On top of spawning the classic hairdo, The Rachel, Friends made us believe we were part of Monica, Ross, Phoebe, Chandler and Rachel’s tight group - even partly responsible for the sag in that orange couch in Central Perk, where the gang hung out all the time.
But visiting the fictitious coffeehouse was only ever a fantasy - until now, that is. Singaporean Lim Jit Min has rallied a group of his own pals to buy into a simple idea: Re-creating the iconic hangout spot right here in Singapore. And guess what? It's going to reflect everything we saw on the show, from the décor to the menu.
The 28-year-old is currently trying to raise $51,000 on crowdfunding website Indiegogo. and if all goes well, Central Perk will open in March 2017.
So what are you waiting for? Be a Friend and do your part here. In return, you could soon be sipping giant mugs of java on that couch with your own motley crew.
