Why You Won’t Regret Shopping Online This Black Friday

The discounts aren’t the only perk

So Singles’ Day and the biggest online shopping event on the planet just passed, but if you’ve still got cash in the kitty and are more into American goods, it’s time to ready those credit cards again.

Black Friday, the original crazy-sale day, is happening at the end of this week, and this year more retailers than ever are reaching out to a global audience by taking their discounts online.

US giant Target will be putting almost all its doorbuster deals on its website, which promises “no lines”. And department store Macy’s has a dedicated webpage for its Black Friday online sale, which begins a day earlier on Thursday. (Psst, we spotted a cute Steve Madden weekender bag for just USD$44.99, usual price USD$78; and Michael by Michael Kors leather gloves for USD$39.99, down from USD$98.)

FYI, if you’re the sort who’s hesitant about buying online, PayPal has a treat for you. The online payment services company has just launched a Refunded Returns program, which covers up to US$15 of the cost of return shipping for eligible online purchases. According to PayPal, all you have to do if you’re dissastisfied with your purchase is activate the program using your PayPal account and file a claim online – five working days later, your refund should be back in your account.

On top of that, PayPal is now also offering buyers enhanced Buyer Protection. This existing service, which used to cover only physical goods, is now available for “eligible intangibles” as well. Think stuff like digital music, software downloads, digital games, e-travel tickets and more.

Says Rahul Shinghal, general manager for PayPal South-east Asia, “As shoppers embark on their year-end shopping spree, PayPal knows just what it takes to sweeten the experience, with Refunded Returns and expanded Buyer Protection.

“With more than half of consumers saying that free shipping for returns is a must-have for domestic and cross-border shopping, 57 per cent of online shoppers in Singapore fearing cybercrime and another 11 per cent who fear not receiving their purchased items, the introduction of these solutions will allow people to shop online with greater confidence from anywhere around the world.”

Awesome deals, a better returns option and enhanced buyer protection? We’re taking it as a message from the universe - a message that quite clearly says, “Now’s the time to shop all you want!” Surely you hear that, too?
