Why Shop When You Can Rent A Whole New Wardrobe?

Wear today, gone tomorrow

Don’t get us wrong, we love to shop. The problem is we probably love shopping too much, and buying up entire boutiques is a pipe dream with the limited amount of dollar bills we have.

Feel the same? Don’t worry, there’s a solution to all our style needs — clothing rentals.

There are plenty of local rental or subscription services that offer designer apparel and accessories for a short period of time for a fraction of the original retail price. A myriad of stylish options that won't cost an arm or a leg? Yes please.

1. Rent A Dress

Rent A Dress, as its name suggests, is your one-stop shop for frocks and gowns for that special occasion. Dresses from a wide range of labels, including Michael Kors, Self-Portrait and Diane Von Furstenberg, can be rented for a period of three-days. We also spotted pieces from the completely sold-out H&M X Balmain collab! Dresses are up for rent at around 10% to 20% of their original retail price — think a $550 DVF dress going at $55. If you’re worried about sizing, you can also try on pieces for 24 hours at $10 per dress, or book a personal styling session at their showroom.

2. Luxe For Lease

If you’re as much of a bag hag as we are, new kid on the block Luxe For Lease is a dream come true. The service lets you rent luxury handbags for anything from a week to a month. The downside is they only carry Chanel bags right now, but we’re hoping to see more from fashion houses like Yves Saint Laurent, Dior and Prada soon. Rental fees start from $99 a week — chump change for carryalls that range in the thousands.

3. Style Theory

This monthly subscription-cum-rental service may not have officially launched yet, but it already looks promising. For $109 a month, you can rent an unlimited number of apparel, three choices at a time, and return them once you’re done. Labels include The Kooples, Finders Keepers and Elizabeth & James, among other cult-favourite brands.

4. Style Lease

Style Lease is another dress rental service where you can find the perfect frock for a night out, a date or a gala. There are dresses from over 30 brands to choose from, from Truly Zac Posen to Vera Wang and Jill Jill Stuart, at $50 and above to rent for four days. They also have a small range of evening bags by Jessica McClintock and jewellery by Kenneth Jay to complete your outfit.
