The thing we love most about collaborations is that they allow creators from different industries to explore domains outside of their comfort zone. And sometimes, these partnerships result in genius products that single minds or brands wouldn’t have been able to come up with on their own.
Like these three new collabs by pairings you would never expect. Call the brands involved unlikely bedfellows, but what they’ve created is fun, fabulous and absolutely functional. Please - just take our money already!
#1 Rimowa x Steiff
A luggage maker and a teddy bear manufacturer? Well, why not when the result is a gorgeous cabin-sized multi-wheel suitcase handcrafted in Rimowa’s signature aluminium and stamped with an adorable print of a Steiff bear.
What’s even more lust-worthy: The interior of the luggage is lined in luscious grey mohair – the material traditionally used to make the brand’s classic teddy bears.
And just in case you need a travel companion, this special edition (limited to just 30 pieces in Singapore out of a total of 1,050 worldwide) comes with a detachable mini Steiff bear in a matching shade.
$1,800. Available from 5 February at Rimowa stores at #01-02 Mandarin Gallery, #B2M-236 Marina Bay Sands and #01-476 Suntec City.
#2 Jeremy Scott x Pepsi
What will Jeremy do next? …is the question fans surely ask every time the designer and Moschino creative head releases another wacky project (like his car wash-themed collection for Moschino and teddy bear shoes for Adidas).
And for the upcoming fashion week season, the answer is a tie-up with Pepsi. According to trade publication WWD, Scott “has taken his creative hand to Pepsi’s new run of branded emojis called PepsiMoji, transposing them into a limited-edition range of six sunglass styles”.
The range - whose “hero” design is this pair of bold yellow frames with earring-like attachments - will be made by Italia Independent and drop in June. No prices and retailers announced yet.
#3 Superga x Weekend Max Mara
The Italian sneaker label has teamed up with the fashion house’s Weekend line to produce love-child kicks that are at once chic yet casual.
Available in two colourways – textured plain ecru or with maxi navy stripes – the rubber-soled sneakers are made with customised fabrics and patterns from the Weekend Max Mara collection and come accented with details like the brand’s butterfly symbol.
Each pair comes with two sets of shoelaces in different designs, a special box and a shoe bag.
Available from March at Weekend By Max Mara, Level 3 Takashimaya.
