If you know Ferragamo shoes, you’ll be familiar with how astonishingly fashionably they withstand the test of time. (And we’re not even talking about Varinas.)
Take this avant garde design, for instance.
Would you have guessed that it was created almost 85 years ago, in 1931?
Now the Italian house has come up with yet another fabulous special collection in celebration of its 100 years of designing for Hollywood - one that promises to hold its own just as well throughout the years.
Called Edgardo Osorio for Salvatore Ferragamo, the capsule series was done in collaboration with rising star Osorio, a young Colombian-born shoe designer with his own up-and-coming label, Aquazzura. And it continues the brand’s tradition of mentoring and investing in emerging creative talent.
Interestingly, the partnership is a homecoming of sorts for Osorio, who started his career as a shoes and accessories designer with Ferragamo a decade ago. That explains why the designs in this collection are shot through with that definitive Ferragamo DNA: They’re fun, gorgeous and would be just as home in a shoe museum as they would on your feet!
Says Salvatore Ferragamo creative director Massimiliano Giornetti, “Edgardo’s South American culture and sophisticated design aesthetic encapsulate the Ferragamo lifestyle.
“This collection is the perfect, modern twist on the true spirit of Salvatore Ferragamo: Irony and playfulness, attention to detail, creativity and a touch of eccentricity, combined with the ultimate in comfort and luxury.”
In total, 11 styles across five lines are available, all of which channel the brand’s iconic designs from Hollywood’s Golden Age.
Can you see how these are a modern interpretation of the 1931 design?
Each, whether it be in nappa, suede, patent leather or cork, boasts a design flourish – some bear wings of feathers, while others have chunky gold heels encrusted in a spray of colourful stones.
Our favourite: These playful yet practical polka dot sandals in cork that will add a whimsical touch to any outfit.
Can’t wait to wear a pair? (FYI, Nicole Kidman was already seen in the capsule’s laced booties in London last month!) Head to Salvatore Ferragamo boutiques at Paragon and Marina Bay Sands from 8 December, when the collection will be available. Prices range from $1,050 to $2,090.
