A lot has happened in 2016, and not all of them good. With natural disasters, terrorist attacks, racial tensions and epidemics, it’s easy to get caught up in all the negativity and lose sight of what it means to be human.
Well, positive reminders are coming in a very unexpected way.
Pharrell Williams and Adidas have teamed up to debut Hu, a collection of shoes that don’t just dress your feet, but also explores humanity and celebrates cultural diversity.
“Hu is short for human – human being, human race, humankind. But Hu, itself is also a reference to colour. As human beings, we all have a colour. We all look different, we all speak different languages, but we’re all connected,” said Pharrell.
Derived from the limited edition NMD shoe styles launched in July, the shoes come in five different colours — scarlet, black, blue, green, and tangerine. Each colour is printed with it’s own unique slogan, like “Hu Race”, “Human Species” and “Hue Man”.
The bright colours and slogans symbolise a celebration of equality, acceptance, co-existence and understanding — all values the world could really use right now.
Deep significance aside, the shoes also boast Adidas’ Primeknit uppers, Boost insoles and a breakthrough lacing system that gives your feet optimal support and comfort. These shoes are just the beginning of the Pharrell Williams and Adidas Hu collab, so expect apparel with the same distinct design and thoughtful message in the seasons to come.
The Adidas Originals = Pharrell Williams Hu shoes ($299) are available at the Adidas Originals store at Pacific Plaza and LE Vault at 313@Somerset from today onwards.
