Elohim by Sabrina Goh

Elohim by Sabrina Goh has come a long way since winning ELLE’s Designer of the Year in 2010. In 2015, they showcased at the Blueprint Trade Show and at Singapore Fashion Week (SFW), and were even selected to join SFW’s Fashion Futures programme with the CFDA. They also opened their first standalone store at the newly refurbished Capitol Piazza. With so many milestones made in 2015 alone, we can’t wait to see what the brand has to bring to the table in 2016.

Shop Elohim by Sabrina Goh at #02-14 Capitol Piazza. Tel: 6385-2185

Aijek

Known for their high-quality, feminine designs, Aijek is steadily making a name for itself, both locally and internationally. It’s one of three local designers to occupy a permanent store space in departmental store Tangs, and was selected to take part in New York’s exclusive Coterie fashion trade show.

Shop Aijek at Keepers at Orchard Green, or online at www.aijek.com.

Exhibit

Exhibit

One of the few local labels set up by social media influencers-turned-designers, Exhibit by Yoyo Cao stands out with its kitschy yet edgy aesthetic. After three-and-a-half years in the industry, the label finally got its big break, holding its first runway show at Singapore Fashion Week last year.

Shop Exhibit at #04-115 Far East Plaza, or online at exhibitstore.co.

Eightslate

Eightslate

The name might be unfamiliar to you, but since it’s inception in 2014, Eightslate - created by blogger-designer Savina Chai - has gained quite a following. Focussed on creating chic, pared down pieces, Eightslate might be Singapore’s answer to another minimalist brand, Cos.

Shop Eightslate at L2 Robinsons The Heeren, or online at eightslate.co.

Runafter

Runafter

If you’ve heard of digital influencer Melissa Koh, then you should be familiar with her new fashion label, Runafter. It’s easy to write the brand off as another influencer’s foray into fashion design, but from what we’ve seen at its debut at Digital Fashion Week in 2015, the designs are equal parts dreamy and covetable.

Shop Runafter at Keepers at Orchard Green.

Collate

Collate

Insta-famous Velda Tan became a household name last year when she went from being one of the founders of popular online store Love, Bonito, to helming her own brand, Collate. With its elegant yet effortless pieces, the brand has proved itself in less than a year, having shown at Singapore Fashion Week, and at the Coterie trade market in New York.

Shop Collate online at collatethelabel.com.

2015 was a big year for fashion in Singapore — we held our very first Singapore Fashion Week, and local names garnered more recognition in general, thanks to efforts to #supportlocal. On the flip side, it was also a year where we saw the closing of our favourite home-grown brands like Hansel, M)phosis and multi-label store Inhabit. Even as we move away from the Year of SG50, bring your love for local design with you to 2016 — here are the brands to watch this year.
