The Lesser-Known French Labels To Fall In Love With

No one does style quite like the French

If there’s one thing we absolutely love about France, it’s its undeniably stylish female inhabitants. Polished, chic yet seemingly effortless, there’s just something impossibly cool about Parisienne style that even has the fashion industry obsessed — a quick Google search on it will bring about so many pages on how to dress like a French fashion girl. Well, if we want to dress like a Parisian, we’ve got to shop like one too. Besides the obvious luxury brands like Louis Vuitton, Chanel and Dior, here are some cult/less mainstream labels that Parisian girls love. Time to start shopping!

1. IRO

If true blue Parisienne style is what you want, shop at IRO. The label, created by brothers Laurent and Arik Bitton in 2005, stocks really simple pieces with a subtle rocker edge. Think lightly-distressed plain t-shirts and sleek leather jackets, a.k.a. pieces that will instantly edge up your look without making you look like you put in too much effort.

2. Eric Bompard

Dubbed the ‘Master of Cashmere’, Eric Bompard spins the warm, soft fabric into coats, sweaters and ready-to-wear items like dresses, shirts and bottoms. If you’re heading somewhere chilly soon, this is where you need to shop.

3. The Kooples

Since its inception in 2008 by brothers Alexandre, Laurent and Raphael Elisha, The Kooples has become widely coveted by the fashion pack. The name is an apt play on the word couples, since the brand is focused on bringing a wide variety of chic and androgynous pieces to both women and men.

4. Petit Bateau

No Parisian wardrobe is complete without a number of good quality basics. And the go-to place to shop for these is Petit Bateau. Since its debut as a children’s clothing brand in the 1920s, it has moved on to produce wardrobe essentials and other ready-to-wear pieces for adults too. We say there’s no better place to buy that Breton-striped top than at this Parisian brand.

5. Comptoir des Cotonniers

Comptoir des Cotonniers reminds us of a luxed-up version of Forever 21, with its extensive range of styles for every girl. Each piece, from dresses to shoes, is casual yet put-together, with unexpected details to keep things interesting. We particularly love their selection of coats that will keep you warm and chic at the same time.

6. Princesse Tam Tam

With a name as quirky as Princesse Tam Tam, you’d imagine this intimates label would be selling bras and panties in bright colours and bold prints. In actual fact, the underwear and lingerie are dreamy and romantic — perfect for that upcoming hot date.

Find Princesse Tam Tam here.

7. 1789 Cala

The shoes made by 1789 Cala were made for walking. The footwear brand is known for their breezy espadrilles and sneakers, but they also have a ready-to-wear line. Both online and brick-and-mortar boutiques stock other brands (including BWGH, Converse and Onitsuka Tiger) as well.
