Say Hello To The First Christmas Shop Of 2016

Ho, ho, ho – it’s not a joke

It’s only August, smack in the middle of summer in most parts of the world, and we haven’t even hit the Hungry Ghost Festival, Hari Raya Haji or Deepavali yet. But that hasn’t deterred one global store from rolling out its Yuletide offerings.

Today, UK-based Selfridges launched its annual Christmas Shop on the fourth floor of its flagship store in London, decked out in a mindboggling 50,000 Christmas decorations. This makes it the first store in the world to kick off the Christmas shopping season – a full 145 days ahead of the occasion itself.

Said Geraldine James, Selfridges’ Christmas home and decorations buyer: “Despite the summer weather, we’re in full festive mode here at Selfridges. We’ve been working on this year’s Christmas Shop since Christmas last year. We have so many customers visiting from all over the world and eager to snap up festive souvenirs on their summer holidays, which they can’t buy at home. So we have to make sure we’re ready to showcase Christmas decorations they will truly treasure.”

Come Fall, the Christmas Shop will expand to accommodate 70,000 more decorations and accessories to really bring this year’s theme – called Shine On – to life. These include personalised baubles, wrapping paper and cards; iconic London-style decorations and more, many exclusive to Selfridges.

Sure brings meaning to the saying “Christmas comes early”, doesn’t it? If you’re in London, swing by the store at 400 Oxford Street for a look!
