For many of us vertically challenged folks in Asia, footwear is a tricky thing. We all want to look taller - and not just purely for aesthetic reasons, as anyone who’s ever been trapped in a train cabin with taller, sweatier passengers can attest to.

The obvious solution to our lack of height is high heels, but the problem with them is they can be so, so uncomfortable. So between sore ankles and being up-close-and-personal with everyone else’s B.O., how do we even choose?

Thankfully, there’s a shoe style that will add height without all that pain: Platforms. But not the over-the-top pairs popularised by the Spice Girls in ’90s. Think instead of modern, almost sporty sandals with a flatform that will lend a subtle boost while supporting your feet.

You’ll look on-trend in them too - chunky platform sandals were all over the Spring/Summer 2016 runways from Chanel to Versace and Louis Vuitton.
