The insta-love/insta-buy phenomenon is taking over New York Fashion Week by storm and at the Michael Kors’ Spring 17 fashion show yesterday, it was no different. Aptly called Ready To Go, the brand has produced a total of 13 just-off-the-runway styles, which can be purchased from its e-commerce site, in addition to all Michael Kors Collection or Lifestyle store across the US.

When we visited the Madison Ave Collection store at closing time (on the same day of the show), it had already sold four “Love” sweaters (US$995 each). “When you watch the Spring shows—it’s still warm outside, you’ve still got your summer tan, lots of women haven’t put away their sandals yet. My customers want something they can put on right away,” said Michael Kors in an official release. “That’s what this is—something for now and for later,” concluded the 57-year old American designer who is celebrating his eponymous label’s 35th anniversary this year.

The collection itself paid homage to the masculine-feminine fashion contrasts Kors is known for  — imagine flirty springtime dresses juxtaposed with mannish tailored suits, shirts and coats that were fashioned into mostly oversized/elongated silhouettes. To suggest they may have had been pinched from your boyfriend’s wardrobe — perhaps?

The heroines of the collection were strong, sexy women from the Forties to the Noughties: A belted white suit with swishy, flared trousers recalled Katherine Hepburn’s alluringly androgynous confidence, while come hither dresses lent a nod to the ’80s blond bombshell actress, Kim Basinger. There was even a hint of sex appeal in the form of an Yves Saint Laurent woman, particularly the ones from the late French designer’s infamous scandal collection of 1971 — belted skirt suits? Check. Slinky, frilly short dresses? Check. Dolly-style platform sandals? Check.
