This no-frills sunscreen (pictured right) is lightweight and hydrating, with a faint powdery scent that lingers and gives the complexion a luminous matte finish — great for days when I want to give my skin an instant glow. I swear by this now.

This moisturising stick sunscreen makes application a no-brainer — it just glides on. Its scent is similar to the brand’s Sugar Lip Treatment. You can use the water-resistant formula anywhere — on the lips, face and even around the eye area. My trick: I use it on the high points on my cheeks to give my face a dewy finish.

Shiseido Perfect UV Protector SPF50+/PA++++, $63.

I’m a fan of the original Shiseido Perfect UV Protector and couldn’t wait to try this version for sensitive skin. It is lightweight, perfect for daily use and doesn’t pill under makeup. I love that I can use this on my child, too.

This was absorbed instantly to leave a non-sticky finish and left my skin hydrated for hours. Best of all, it’s waterproof and mostly held up when I went wakeboarding. Its lightweight texture also makes it easy to blend when I’m reapplying it throughout the day.

I have an oily T-zone and this didn’t leave me looking or feeling like a greasy mess. Its gel-to-powder formula offers a matte finish and a cooling sensation. The only downside: Its faint menthol scent.

Sunscreen is like the sort of discreet service you find at five-star hotels: It’s always there (at least, you should be wearing it all the time!), but its presence is never in your face.

Likewise, our fave suncreens are usually the most weightless ones, because who wants to feel they have gunk on their face all the time? Here, some of the latest and lightest UV fighters, as tested by ELLE readers. They’re so unobtrusive, you’ll forget they’re even there.
