Everyone Is Talking About This Cushion Foundation

And Singapore will be first in the world to launch it

So cushion foundations are old news and have become a staple in many a makeup pouch. (That’s no surprise: Essentially liquid foundation suspended in a sponge, a cushion compact is a fuss-free and non-messy way to apply your base.)

But a new one that will hit our shores this Saturday has got everyone abuzz again. The Yves Saint Laurent Beauté Le Cushion Encre de Peau (a.k.a Ink-in-Cushion) breaks new ground in cushion foundations, not least because it’s going to be an Asia-exclusive product.

Here are six other things you need to know about the latest must-have cushion:

Singapore will be first in the world to launch it (we hear the very resourceful team here managed to get stocks in early)! On top of that, the first 50 customers to purchase a Yves Saint Laurent Beauté Le Cushion Encre de Peau will get to shop any YSL lip product and pay $109 for both (the two products would otherwise cost around $138 together).

Its formula is similar to the brand’s super popular Fusion Ink Foundation that launched last year, with a milky-texture that sets into a powdery finish. Which means you can now get the same matte yet luminous finish with the ease of a compact.

Unlike some matte-finish foundations, this doesn’t dry skin out. The cushion application keeps skin moisturised, so your face stays shine-free and fresh all day.

The lightweight base offers buildable medium coverage. Once you start rolling the applicator sponge onto the skin, the formula blends in seamlessly and instantly gets rid of blotchiness and dullness, leaving you with a flawless-looking complexion.

There are six shades (most cushion foundations don’t come in more than two) packed with SPF23/PA++ protection.

At $88, this is the priciest cushion foundation on the market - and it doesn’t come with a refill. But a little goes a long way and you won’t have to apply it on your entire face. “This blends seamlessly into a real skin texture. My advice is to apply a little around the nose and centre of the face where you might want to cover redness – you naturally need less coverage on the sides of the face,” says Lloyd Simmonds, creative director of makeup for Yves Saint Laurent Beauté.

The Yves Saint Laurent Beauté Le Cushion Encre de Peau will be available at the Yves Saint Laurent Beauté Boutique at #B2-34 Ion Orchard (tel: 6509-7423) from Saturday, 20 February.
