The Coolest Beauty Apps To Download Now

Best part is - they’re all free!

Makeup Plus

Makeup Plus

From the developers who brought us Mei Tu Xiu Xiu comes this app that’s specifically catered to beautifying your selfie with makeup. You can try on different beauty looks, including those of celebrities like Marilyn Monroe and Taylor Swift. We were sceptical about the results at first, but the virtual makeup looks surprisingly real. Great for days when you’re too lazy to put on makeup in real life but still want to post that selfie.

Available on iOS and Google Play

Beautiful Me

Beautiful Me

This is probably the smartest beauty app out there. Using a complex neural network, Beautiful Me processes your selfies to determine your correct skintone, undertone and how your skin is changing. From the results, the app suggests products and colour tones that would suit you. Of course, it’s not infallible — we say take the advice with a pinch of salt and try the recommended products first. But at least now you know where to start shopping.

Available on iOS and Google Play

Nail Snaps
01 Dec 2015

Nail Snaps

We love this app! NailSnaps allows you to create custom nail stickers with zero fuss using photos from your phone. There’s no limit to what you want to immortalise on your nails — be it that beautiful sunset you saw in Bali or a #foodporn shot of your dinner last night. The stickers are a little pricey at USD$19 with a USD$5.50 international shipping fee, but at the very least they’re worth it for the novelty. Makes for great gifts for your girlfriends too!

Only available on iOS.

Beautylish
01 Dec 2015

Beautylish

Beautylish is really more like a community of beauty lovers all in one app, where you can share makeup inspiration and knowledge, and write and read honest product reviews. Our favourite tab is Photos, where you can browse through looks done by other users. Feeling particular proud of your makeup that day? Upload your own selfie. On top of all that, Beautylish is an e-commerce store, where you can shop brands like Inglot, Kevyn Aucoin and Charlotte Tilbury that are hard to find here.

Download for iOS or Google Play.

Vanitee

Vanitee

This Singapore-based app is your one-stop shop to connect with local hair, makeup and skincare professionals from the comfort of your own home. The great thing about it? You can read all customer reviews and browse photos of any business’ past work to determine if it’s a fit for your needs. Prices are clearly stated and there’s a chat function for any other enquiries you may have. The lazy bums in us are so glad we downloaded this app - read our review of it here!

Available on iOS and Google Play

Think Dirty

Think Dirty

Makeup is fun and all, but a lot of products contain ingredients that are actually harmful for your health and the environment. That’s where Think Dirty comes in. In it, you’ll find reviews on a wide range of skincare, makeup and hair products based on their carcinogenicity, toxicity and potential allergens. Another great app for product reviews is Good Guide, which also extends its rating system to household chemicals, pet food and…diapers. You’d be surprised at the scores your favourite products have.

Only available on iOS

From an app that allows you to print customised nail stickers to another that bestows your selfie with instant makeup, THESE are the reasons why every beauty fan should love technology.
